Privacy Policy
Version: v1.0 | Effective: 23 October 2025
This policy explains what personal data SafariLegacy collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It covers SafariLegacy websites, mobile experiences, APIs, and related services (the Service).
Summary
- We collect the information you provide, usage data, and partner integrations needed to run the Service.
- We use that data to operate SafariLegacy, protect the community, improve features, and communicate with you.
- You control marketing consent, can request export or deletion, and can set memories to public or private on eligible plans.
- We do not sell personal data. We share information only with trusted processors needed to run the Service or when required by law.
Data we collect
- Account details: name, email, password hash, plan, region, preferences (including marketing consent), and billing details if you subscribe.
- Memories and media: stories, photos, videos, captions, animal details, locations, gear lists, outfitter and taxidermist information, and optional statistics you add.
- Usage and device data: log data, IP address, device/browser information, approximate location, activity timestamps, and analytics events that help us understand how SafariLegacy is used.
- Support and communications: messages you send to support, contact forms, and survey responses.
- Third-party integrations: payment processors, mapping providers, analytics platforms, storage/CDN partners, and authentication or anti-abuse tools.
How we use data and legal bases
- Provide the Service (contract): host and display memories, process uploads, enable search, sharing, QR or NFC redirection, and manage account features.
- Secure the Service (legitimate interests/legal obligation): prevent fraud and abuse, detect suspicious activity, protect wildlife and community standards, and comply with legal requests.
- Improve features (legitimate interests/consent): analyze aggregated usage, run diagnostics, and pilot new features. In regions where consent is required for analytics cookies, we request it separately.
- Communicate with you (contract/legitimate interests/consent): send onboarding tips, feature updates, account notices, and marketing emails if you opt in. You can change marketing preferences at any time.
- Comply with law (legal obligation): keep records needed for tax, accounting, and regulatory reporting, and respond to lawful requests.
How the Service shares data
We share personal data with trusted processors who help us run SafariLegacy, such as cloud hosting providers, content delivery networks, payment processors, email delivery services, analytics tools, and customer support platforms. These partners may be located outside your country of residence and are contractually required to protect your information.
We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our legal rights, to investigate potential violations of these Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, we will notify you of any changes to how your data is handled.
Public vs private memories
Free memories are public by default and can appear in Explore, public profiles, or shared links. Hunter plans include a private toggle for each memory. Public memories are viewable by anyone who has the link, while private memories are visible only to you and people you explicitly share them with. You are responsible for the information you publish in public memories.
Data retention
We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete memories, they are removed from active systems and are purged from backups within a reasonable period. We may retain certain information after account closure where required by law, to resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or maintain security and integrity.
Your choices and rights
- Account settings: update your profile, password, memory visibility, and marketing consent at any time.
- Data access and export: request a copy of your personal data by contacting us. We will respond consistent with applicable privacy laws.
- Deletion: delete individual memories or ask us to close your account. We will permanently remove personal data unless we need to keep it for legal reasons.
- Marketing preferences: opt out of promotional emails by using unsubscribe links or updating settings. Transactional emails cannot be opted out of.
- Cookies and analytics: manage browser settings or use in-product controls where offered. Some Service features rely on essential cookies and cannot function without them.
International data transfers
We operate primarily from South Africa and may store or process data in other countries where we or our partners operate. When transferring personal data internationally we rely on legally recognized safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses, partner certifications, or your explicit consent.
Security
We implement technical and organizational measures such as encryption in transit, role-based access, and monitoring to protect personal data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we review our controls regularly and respond quickly to incidents. Please keep your password secure and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
Children
SafariLegacy is not directed to children under 16. If you believe a child provided personal data without parental consent, contact us so we can remove the information. Parents or legal guardians who create accounts for minors must supervise use of the Service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features, operational practices, or legal requirements. If changes are material we will provide reasonable notice via email or in-product messages. The "Effective" date above will always show the latest version. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
